The leading cause of aging of the skin is chronic exposure to sunlight. This includes not only repeated sunburns but even short exposure to the rays of the sun during outdoor excursions. It is known that both forms of UV light (UV-A and UV-B) damage the various cells of the skin, including the collagen and elastin fibers that give body and elasticity to the skin. It does this by forming free radicals deep in the layers of our skin. The normal antioxidants within the skin help neutralize these free radicals, but it is now known that even after a relatively short exposure to the sun’s rays, these skin antioxidants are quickly depleted, leaving the skin vulnerable to damage that can lead to rapid ageing of the skin, brown spots, and even skin cancer. Recent research has shown that these antioxidants can be restored to the deep layers of the skin by topical application. Several manufacturers of skin creams add small amounts of one or two of these vitamins to their products. We have gone far beyond that. In our research, we have discovered that protecting the skin and restoring its vigor depends not only on the usual antioxidant vitamins but also on other nutrients and plant chemicals called flavonoids. The name of this wondrous skin treatment system came from the fact that it took 9 specific formulations before we were able to produce the perfect balance of ingredients to maximize the protection and rejuvenation of your skin. Wrinkle Cream #9® promotes healing the skin from its deepest layers and protects all of the various components of the skin.
Wrinkle Cream #9 comes in a 1.5oz bottle, which usually lasts our customers for about 3 months.
The following summarizes the benefits of each ingredient in Wrinkle Cream #9®:
Ascorbyl Palmitate: This is a liquid soluble form of Vitamin C that has been shown to deeply penetrate the various layers of the skin. Not only does it act as a powerful free radical scavenger but it is known to stimulate the growth and repair of collagen. Damaged collagen and elastin represent two of the leading causes of wrinkling and sagging of the skin. One study found that vitamin C could reduce facial wrinkles by 50%. It is known that short exposure to UV-B light can severely deplete the skin’s vitamin C levels. Application of ascorbyl palmitate to the skin restores vitamin C to very high levels. Vitamin C has also been shown to hydrate the skin as well. One effect of sun exposure is that it damages the skin’s natural immunity, leading to blemishes and even cancer of the skin. Ascorbyl palmitate has been shown to significantly boost skin immunity. In several studies, it was found that ascorbyl palmitate significantly inhibited skin tumor induction by carcinogenic chemicals and UV-B exposure, and did so much more effectively than vitamin C itself. In one study, application of this product inhibited skin tumor induction by 91%. It was shown that ascorbyl palmitate significantly reduced sunburn reactions if applied before exposure.
Vitamin E (Alpha tocopherol succinate): This vitamin has been shown in many studies to reduce sun damage to the skin, scavenge free radicals, and protect against skin tumors. Vitamin E works more efficiently when combined with ascorbyl palmitate and the various flavonoids. As with vitamin C, vitamin E skin levels have been shown to be drastically reduced by exposure to UV- B sunlight. These skin levels can be effectively restored by topical application, as with Wrinkle Cream #9®.
Niacinamide: This is the form of niacin the body uses as a vitamin. Niacinamide has been shown to be extremely important in skin health. As stated, UV-B rays from sunlight are known to be very powerfulsuppressors of the skin’s immune system. It is alsoknown that exposure to intense sun rays can depress thebody’s immune system as well. Topical application ofniacinamide has been shown to dramatically restore theskin’s immunity, even with sun exposure, and even torestore the general immunity as well. In one study, it was shown that topical application of niacinamide suppressed skin tumor formation significantly. One of the important effects of topical niacinamide is that it protects the DNA of the skin cells from free radical injury. It is damage tothe cell’s DNA that leads to advanced aging of the skin and eventual skin cancer.
Panthenol: This is a vitamin that is essential to skin health. Several studies have shown improved cell function and healthier skin with regular panthenol use.
Ginkgo biloba: This is an herb that is being found to do some remarkable things as regards protecting cells and preventing accelerated aging and degenerative diseases. It is known that when this herb is applied to the skin it induces the skin to produce very important protective enzymes called superoxide dismutase and catalase, which remove damaging peroxides from the skin. Studies have demonstrated excellent penetration of the skin, and that when applied before sun exposure, protects the skin against sunburn damage by UV-B rays. Another study found that topically applied Ginkgo extract stimulated the production of collagen and fibronectin in skin, both critical in preventing and repairing wrinkling of the skin. Ginkgo extract has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. This is critical in skin care to remove those inflamed red spots and blemishes.
Quercetin: This is one of the most protective of the plant phytochemicals called flavonoids. Flavonoids have some incredible properties. They are more powerful as free radical scavengers than the vitamins and, have been shown to enhance the effectiveness of the vitamins. They are anti-inflammatory, protect collagen and elastin, binds free iron in the skin (a major cause of skin aging and brown spots), inhibit enzymes associated with skin cancer and protect the DNA of cells. Quercetin is one of the most powerful substances found to protect skin cells from sun damage and the effects of aging. When combined with vitamin C, quercetin has been shown togive almost total protection to the cell’s DNA.
Rutin: This is another of the plant flavonoids. Like quercetin, it is also a powerful agent for the removal of free iron from the skin. Rutin has been shown to prevent damage to DNA of cells exposed to powerful DNA toxins. But, even more important, it has been shown to stimulate the enzymes that repair DNA damage. This is critical to reversing the effects of sunlight, aging, and free radical damage to skin.
Melatonin: This is a hormone that has gained a lot of attention recently, mainly because of its age reversing effects and as a sleep aid. But, what is less well known is that it is a very powerful antioxidant, especially when applied to the skin. Melatonin prevents skin damage by several of the more powerful free radicals induced by sunlight exposure, such as the peroxyl, hydroxyl and peroxynitrite radicals.
Grape seed extract: This plant extract from the seeds of grapes has been shown to inhibit inflammation, protect collagen and elastin, and act as a powerful antioxidant. Several of the flavonoids in the extract bind to collagen and elastin thereby protecting it from various enzymes and free radicals that are known to break down these important skin structures. Again, collagen and elastin damage is a major cause of skin sagging and wrinkling.
Alpha Lipoic Acid: This is a natural compound found throughout the body. It is one of the most efficient antioxidants known and is important in that is keeps the other antioxidants, including flavonoids, working to their peak efficiency. In addition, it also binds free iron and protects the skin against damaging effects of UV-A and UV-B irradiation.
Most skin creams contain emollients, hydrators and alcohols that merely layer the skin or add oils. Some have added small amounts of vitamins, often in concentrations too small to be effective. Wrinkle Cream #9 is unique in that we have researched the field of skin care extensively and discovered from that research a way to not only maximally protect the skin against aging, but also a way to restore some of the skin’s damaged tissuesas well. Most important, it is achieved by products found in nature. Unlike some of the heavily promoted products, such as alpha-hydroxy, Wrinkle Cream #9 does not fight wrinkles by causing skin to swell and become inflamed. Rather, it heals the skin from its deepest layers and protects all of the various components of the skin. Wrinkle Cream #9 is truly unique.
Apply twice daily to clean face. Rub well until Wrinkle Cream #9 disappears and is absorbed into skin. May also use on neck and back of hands.
